The 2025 Accord Hybrid comes through beautifully with great specs, such as an EPA-estimated 51 MPG in the city.[a] You expect fantastic fuel efficiency from a hybrid like this, but what really pushes the Accord Hybrid to the next level is just how many options Honda makes available for it. This is particularly obvious when compared to the 2025 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, a similar midsize sedan that also features a hybrid powertrain. The Sonata is only offered with two hybrid trims, whereas when you look at a Honda Accord Hybrid for sale, you’ll find four different trim levels to choose from, making it a lot easier to get everything you want. Let’s take a closer look at the Accord Hybrid, and you’ll see why so many people choose it each year, even over similar models like the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid.
Fantastic Performance for City Driving
It’s easy to assume that a sedan doesn’t need to be fun to drive; we often think of cars as functional, perhaps even utilitarian, daily drivers without a lot going on. Fortunately, some car companies like Honda understand that even a functional vehicle should still be enjoyable when you get behind the wheel. The 2025 Honda Accord Hybrid has a 2.0L I-4 hybrid engine that delivers 204 hp and 247 lb-ft of torque, ensuring you have a great time when you’re on the road. By comparison, the 2025 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid features a similar 2.0L I-4 engine, but it provides just 192 hp—a minor difference, but it still shows the focus Honda puts on great performance with all of its vehicles.
What’s particularly noteworthy, however, is the stunning difference in the kind of fuel efficiency you can get with these two vehicles. The 2025 Accord Hybrid gets an EPA-estimated 51 MPG in the city, 44 MPG on the highway, and 48 MPG combined fuel economy.[a] Hyundai’s Sonata Hybrid, on the other hand, gets an estimated 44 MPG in the city and 51 MPG on the highway, the reverse of what the Accord provides. One of the things we love about a good hybrid car is how efficient it makes city driving each day, including your daily commute, running errands, and getting together with friends. The highway gas mileage of the Sonata Hybrid is nice, but we much prefer a car that gets us around town each day with fewer stops for gas.
Terrific Exterior Features and Good Looks
One of the best things about the 2025 Honda Accord is that it has four different hybrid trims for you to choose from, so you can get excellent fuel efficiency while also choosing the kinds of features you want. The starting Sport Hybrid trim comes with 19-inch wheels for bold overall looks, plus LED headlights with auto-on/off functionality and LED taillights. You also get body-colored door handles, Gloss Black power side mirrors, and a one-touch power moonroof as standard features. The EX-L Hybrid comes with 17-inch wheels instead, while the top Touring Hybrid trim gives you an acoustic laminate windshield and front door glass for a quieter ride, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and body-colored heated side mirrors with integrated LED turn signal indicators to enhance your drive.
Looking at the 2025 Hyundai Sonata, it’s a fine midsize sedan, but there are only two hybrid trims available for it, limiting your options for what you can get. The standard SEL Hybrid features 17-inch wheels along with LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, and automatic light control. Body-colored side mirrors are standard, along with a black mesh grille and other details. Even if you go with the Limited Hybrid trim, you find mostly the same features, including 17-inch wheels and the same side mirrors. The Limited Hybrid has a bit nicer exterior lighting, which is good, but otherwise, it’s sparse in terms of exterior upgrades.
Impressive Comfort and Tech Features Inside
Moving inside, we see similar issues with the Hyundai Sonata. Its features and options are limited by the fact that only two hybrid trims are available. The SEL Hybrid comes with cloth seating and an eight-way power driver’s seat, which is nice. Heated front seats are standard, but ventilated front seats are only found on the Limited Hybrid trim level with nothing in between. A 12.3-inch infotainment display is standard, along with a small 4.2-inch instrument cluster screen; the Limited Hybrid has a Bose sound system for enhanced audio, but you ultimately face a binary decision when looking at what’s available.
With the new Honda Accord Hybrid, there are four different trim levels to choose from, so you can find the combination you want. The standard Sport Hybrid trim comes with a 10-way power driver’s seat with two-way power lumbar; going with the EX-L and higher trims adds two-position memory. You get standard heated front seats, and the top Touring Hybrid trim adds heated rear seating. Leather-trimmed seating is found in all but the starting trim level, while the Touring Hybrid adds ventilated front seats. A 12.3-inch infotainment screen and a 10.2-inch customizable Driver Information Interface display are standard for the hybrid trims. Every trim comes with a wireless phone charger, and while the first three trims have an eight-speaker sound system, the highest trim comes with a 12-speaker Bose Premium sound system for incredible audio while you drive.
Great Safety Features for a Midsize Car
We obviously place a premium on having options and the freedom to choose the features you want, but we’re happy to say that both of these cars deliver when it comes to safety. The Sonata Hybrid models come with Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian/Cyclist/Junction Turning Detection, Lane Keeping Assist, and Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go. You’ll also find Blind-Spot Collision Warning, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, and High Beam Assist on every trim. The Limited Hybrid trim comes with Highway Driving Assist and Blind-Spot View Monitor, but they’re not available on the SEL Hybrid.
Similarly, every Honda Accord Hybrid comes with a comprehensive suite of driver-assistance features, including Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow. You get a Collision Mitigation Braking System and Road Departure Mitigation System with every model, along with Lane Keeping Assist, Auto High-Beam Headlights, and a Blind Spot Information System with Cross Traffic Monitor. The Touring Hybrid trim also comes with Low-Speed Braking Control, but otherwise, you don’t miss out on any safety features based on the trim you choose. This is precisely what we like to see in a vehicle, regardless of how many options or trim levels there are for it.
Honda Gives You More Options to Get What You Want
At the end of the day, while Hyundai does plenty of things right with the Sonata Hybrid, the freedom you get with the 2025 Honda Accord Hybrid simply can’t be beat. We love having four different trim levels to choose from when looking at this hybrid model since it makes it easier to find everything our customers want without missing out on something or going overboard with a bunch of unwanted extras. Honda understands this well, so we see a wide range of options for the Accord Hybrid that let you get the kind of driving experience you’re looking for along with exceptional fuel economy that keeps you on the road longer. If you’re not sure which of these four hybrid trims is right for you, then you’re in luck; here at Bedard Brothers Honda, we’re happy to show you everything available and work closely with you to make sure you drive away in a car that you love.
